In track 6, “BLUE HOUR” from Smoke of Iris, the spaceman reaches the endless horizon of a desert on an unknown planet. Sand whispers by in the epic cinematic soundscape that evokes a sense of destiny that awaits the spaceman.
Throughout “The Night The Earth Stood Still” by Smoke of Iris, every track flows into the next, telling an ongoing story of the spaceman and his intergalactic travels into the unknown regions of space. By track 4, “ALL MY LIFE”, he crash lands on an unknown planet and encounters strange phenomena pushing him into fear and apprehension. Smoke of Iris uses the metaphor of the spaceman to convey feeling trapped in a dark place emotionally and mentally, ultimately deciding he must accept the place he’s in and know he can survive. This ultimately frees him through surrender and acceptance later into the album.
