During their time in Savannah, our ICONS had the opportunity to visit Oatland Island, where they learned all about sustainability and the importance of recycling and composting. 🌱♻️
Through hands-on experiences and exploration, students discovered how small actions can make a big impact on protecting our environment.
We’re proud to see our future leaders growing in knowledge and responsibility! 💚🌎
As part of the NOAA Ocean Guardian Project, students visited the Gray’s Reef Ocean Discovery Center, where they explored and learned about the Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary. This unique marine sanctuary is rich in biodiversity and features live bottom reefs that support a wide variety of marine life.
The Discovery Center itself serves as a replica of the sanctuary, allowing students to experience its ecosystem up close. During their visit, students worked collaboratively in groups to conduct biodiversity surveys. Through this hands-on activity, they learned about taxonomic identification and gained insight into how scientists collect and analyze data in underwater environments.
