With the support and blessing of the Rivera family, the Smithtown Performing Arts Center is honored to serve as the nonprofit home of the Jon Rivera Legacy Scholarship Fund — a tribute to a man whose impact on our stage and in our hearts is truly unforgettable.
Jon Rivera was more than an incredibly gifted performer — he was a beacon of generosity, humility, and compassion. SUCH was his talent that he was cast in productions across Long Island, but SPAC was privileged to be one of his artistic homes. From Grease in our very first season to Beauty and the Beast, The Light in the Piazza, and most recently Newsies, Jon brought light and brilliance to over a dozen productions on our stage.
What many may not know is that Jon quietly donated every paycheck he earned as a performer back to the theater, believing deeply in giving more than he received. So it is in his name that we're proud to have the first awardee in Madeline Dobias. Maddy worked with Jon on Newsies and this first award is just the start to continuing the same extraordinary spirit of generosity Jon gave every day. With his scholarship the community that loved him can continue his work and passion for uplifting young aspiring performers and artists who share Jon's passion, kindness, giving, and grace through theater and the arts.
With your help, we’ll carry forward his legacy — not only through performance, but through the generosity and love that defined him.
All proceeds go to the award winners with no administration fees or costs from SPAC.
