Last week, our wonderful clients and owners of Southwood were presented the Ballinger Award by the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach for the restoration of the Marion Sims Wyeth-designed 1934 landmarked estate. Congratulations to our clients as well as the entire project team for this well-deserved recognition!
The Ballinger Award epitomizes our clients’ dedication to preserving both the tangible and intangible qualities of the property - its history, character, and sense of place - which render Southwood a truly unique grand estate of Palm Beach.
The award is especially meaningful to us at Smith Kellogg, as the start of our ongoing preservation efforts at the property coincided with the inception of our firm in 2018. Over these past seven years,
@kristin.kellogg has in particular contributed immeasurably to the successful restoration of Southwood through her expertise and passion for historic preservation architecture, as evidenced by her contributions to the
@palmbeachpreservation Landmarks Discovered mini-documentary on the property, our firm’s receipt of the 2020 ICAA Addison Mizner Award for Historic Preservation in Residential Architecture for our restoration work, and a cover feature in the Feb. 2025 issue of 𝘗𝘢𝘭𝘮 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘐𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥, in which Kristin provides further insight into the ongoing story of the home. Southwood also features post-restoration on the cover of Jane S. Day’s Rizzoli publication 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘗𝘢𝘭𝘮 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘳𝘪 𝘓𝘢: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘪𝘮𝘴 𝘞𝘺𝘦𝘵𝘩.
It has truly been an honor for us to work alongside dedicated owners both past and present, to ply our craft in historic preservation architecture and to play our small part in the rich history of Southwood.
