Texas A&M University’s flagship campus is home to one of the nation’s largest student populations, and its student recreation center is designed to meet that scale. As captured by ByDesign TV, it’s more than a place to train or work out – the center serves as an anchor for campus life, giving students a practical space to gather, connect, relax and stay active.
Catch our Higher Education Studio Leader, Clint Menefee, discussing the project in the full episode this Saturday, May 9 at 9pm EDT on CBS News (New York Livestream). Find the livestream at the #linkinbio.

More Art. More Light. More Community.
Our design for the @vmfamuseum expansion and renovation imagines a more open, light-filled museum experience—one that reflects VMFA's mission to engage, inspire, and connect.
Expanded galleries, new public amenities, and a distinctive fluted façade reflect community input gathered from across the Commonwealth. The design of the new wing softens the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a more connected and accessible experience for more visitors.

The digital banking revolution has upended how financial institutions approach the look, feel and functionality of their workplace — with many trading traditionally rigid and formal layouts for sleek, minimalist spaces that promote well-being, celebrate organizational culture and support a variety of work styles and collaboration.
These fresh new designs favor open layouts, modern materials with sophisticated yet understated color palettes, abundant natural light, uniquely branded elements and storytelling displays that resonate with digitally savvy customers and align workplace strategy, brand identity and operational needs in meaningful ways.
Sharing pics of a few projects for financial institutions that are embracing this new design approach.

Our celebration of World Landscape Architecture Month starts with the power and potential that landscape architects bring to integrated design.
Landscape architecture featured strongly in SmithGroup’s annual Top Projects review – curated by the firm's Design Directors to drive design excellence. These newly built and on-the-boards projects highlight the deeply impactful role that landscape architecture plays in advancing holistic sustainability and creating vital places for healing, work, research and recreation.

Designing SmithGroup’s new San Diego workplace, one of 20 throughout the U.S., invited boundary-stretching solutions and process innovation. Spanning 8,060 square feet on the 18th floor of a downtown waterfront tower with bay views, it is supremely tied to place yet references the firm’s widespread legacy.
A blue-toned exposed ceiling demarcating primary circulation alludes to the famed Coronado Bridge, while a floor mosaic cites the year of SmithGroup’s founding (1853!). Various artworks and objects suggest other office sites or personal touches, such as a painting of ice cream cones that depict the staff’s favorite flavors.

On March 17, 1776, British soldiers decamped from Boston, signaling a significant turning point in America's fight for independence. This year marks the 250th commemoration of that pivotal moment in our nation's history, known as Evacuation Day.
This year, Boston National Historical Park will also rededicate the newly restored Dorchester Heights Monument, erected to mark General George Washington's strategic victory that catalyzed the evacuation of the British from Boston. SmithGroup designed the restoration of the iconic Georgian Revival landmark to address chronic moisture and structural problems.
National Park Service is hosting three public events at Dorchester Heights Monument to recognize Evacuation Day, on March 13, March 14 and March 17. Learn more @boston_nhp
