Brands Run on Trust. A motto here at SmithBorn. Really a core belief that’s embedded into all of the work. Simply put trust is our North Star. Without it and your brand begins to erode.
Building a website (or any asset that actually does the lifting for your brand) starts with answering the hard questions first.
What is this thing supposed to do? Who is it for and what do they get out of it? Can they find what they need fast, without fighting for it? And how do you feed the algorithm and still keep your authentic brand voice?
The project is strategy. All else is execution
Heavier lifts need more firepower. That’s why I’ve teamed up with @smithborn.studio and @sharonbaileyco on a big web build for a new client. Step one isn’t what you think. We don’t start with design. We start with listening . Find out who this client’s people actually are, then build something that talks directly to them.
Digging into the archives to pull out a project that fostered friendships, ideation, and funky design.
Soon after moving to GJ I heard of the Makerspace and was immediately interested. Turns out the timing was ripe as they were looking for a designer to rebrand the space.
It was a great delight to work with my now good friend Nick on this project. At the time he was leading the charge and our shared roots of Pennsylvania made the collaboration easy.
The brand is inspired by the atomic history of where the space resides. Nestled near the river part of the @gjincubator The land carries stories worth honoring, and we tried to do just that in the mark.

It’s always a nice surprise to see your work out in the world. Just a few days ago I was gifted some German apple bread only to immediately recognize my handy work. Good old @redshedproduce coming in with a yummy treat.
Brand identity design work cross pollinating from digital to physical. Built from western Colorado coloring, modernized shapes of the Grand Valley’s icons and outdoor inspired typography.
Building trust takes time, but the payoff is well worth the effort. The more trust your brand earns, the less you have to convince anyone of anything.
