Set within a landscape of Australian native trees and grasses in rural NSW, SHINGLE HOUSE is a home shaped by climate, place and family connection. Designed for a couple embracing a tree change, the home will be a calm retreat to share with visiting family and friends.
A skin of metal shingles wraps the perimeter, forming a climate-responsive buffer — shielding the home from strong winter winds and the harsh western sun. This breathable layer creates a sheltered external walkway, linking the house, shed and guest accommodation, allowing movement across the site in all seasons.
Inside, the palette is warm and grounding. Rammed earth walls provide thermal mass and a sense of permanence, while spotted gum lining brings added texture, warmth and a natural richness to the rooms. Soft, filtered light and tactile finishes create a quiet, enduring atmosphere that reflects the surrounding landscape.
We’re currently deep in the detailed design phase — refining every junction, material meeting and moment of experience. A home crafted for slow living, connection and life held gently by the land.
