We did it! 10 Bridges, 10km, all in aid of @the_listening_place_london . Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us, either by coming along or by putting some change in our virtual bucket. Our fundraising page will be open until 6pm today, if anyone would still like to donate. #morrisdancing #morrisdancers @bbclondon #riverthames #weirdlondon #strangelondon #londonfolklore #folkmusic #charityevent #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthawareness
What a glorious year 2025 has been for Smiffs. We welcomed numbers 70, 71, 72, and 73 into kit at Boat Race; celebrated the 50th anniversary of @adderburymorrismen , had a lovely tour of Bankside with @towerravens , @chilternhundredsmorris , and @treacleeaterclog ; got up to all sorts of shenanigans at @sidmouthfolkfestival (including a clean sweep in the doubles at the John Gasson Jig Competition and winning the Bill Rutter trophy); we raised nearly £14,000 for @the_listening_place_london with our 10 Bridges 10k; and capped the year off by performing for the one and only @official.martincarthy . Phew! Huge thanks to everyone who has come out to support us, it’s been a blast. Here’s to 2026!
It was great to be out on home turf celebrating May Day on Friday. Thanks to everyone who stopped and watched, and thanks to @hfcouncil for letting us bring some May Day merriment to Lyric Square.
Missed us? We’ll be at both @starch_green ’s May Madness and @richmondmayfair this Saturday - see our website for details.
It’s the Mayday weekend at the Lewes Arms, and that means folk in strange attire, gather to partake in arcane rituals, some of ancient origin, some less so. @smiffs.w6 will be here on Saturday around 3pm. Sunday is the first Dwyle flunk of the year which kicks off around 2pm.
Yesterday was #internationaldanceday - a timely reminder that Morris is international! We exist as part of a dynamic and vibrant traditional dance scene, both within our borough, our city, and across the globe. The roots of Morris dancing are thought to be in medieval North Africa, and likely came to these shores via Spain, but of course it didn’t just spread to England. Morris dancing shares a huge amount with a variety of traditions dance styles across Europe and beyond.
Here’s us with Cǎlușari dancers from Romania at the Romanian Embassy in 2024. Spot the difference?
Well done to all the runners in today’s @londonlandmarkshalf , especially our very own Joe90! Not only did the complete the course with a PB, but also managed to join us for a hop around afterwards to entertain the crowds.
