As International Women’s Day is right around the corner, I wanted to use this occasion to highlight - some of my favourite - women artists who dared to challenge perception of gender and patriarchal order of world.
Though it started as a fight for gender equality, artists nowadays also take into consideration other aspects of discrimination as race, class, sexuality, disability, and intersectional oppression. Their work not only challenges traditional power structures but also amplifies the voices of marginalized communities, creating a more inclusive and nuanced conversation about equality in the arts and society.
In my opinion, resistance and using one’s voice in the fight for the common good, beyond personal interest, is exceptionally important in today’s political climate.
