From the outside, @missizacalzado , in what feels like a fully lived-in prime, can appear to have everything in place. But she shares that motherhood continues to surprise her in many ways. “I’m just not going on Instagram to suddenly tell you, ‘Lunod na lunod na ako!’” she says with a laugh. She once had fears about becoming a mother, even worrying about passing certain things on to her child. As May 10 comes around, Iza Calzado is set to celebrate three years of the “beautiful, chaotic mess” that is motherhood. “Chaotic na nga, mess pa?” she laughs. “It is, ’di ba? It’s a beautiful chaos of sorts.” As Smart Parenting sits down with Iza, we see a woman in her absolute prime. At 43, the award-winning actress, women's empowerment and mental health advocate, and podcast host has always been busy. While Iza trusts how her husband Ben Wintle shows up for their family and lauds him as a great dad, she admits she naturally prefers to steer the ship. “I’m part of the problem,” she laughs, adding, “Competent naman siya; kailangan [ko] lang ibigay sa kanya ’yung chance to step up.” And when she does, Ben steps in fully, steady in his own way of holding the wheel too.
