WINNER for BEST EDITING at the New York Indie Shorts Awards! 🏆🎬
So incredibly honored, thank you NYC Indie Shorts Awards for this recognition! I honestly never expected this. When I was writing this film I wasn’t even planning on editing the film myself, but after seeing what we had shot I realized I had such a specific vision that I felt I didn’t really have a choice.
The edit was a long, challenging process, trynna find the delicate balance where style and story don’t clash, but instead amplify each other. Where style is allowed to be prominent without overshadowing the story within.
Being the writer/director, and editor while also being the one this story is about, was really tough. At one point, I realized that all the stylistic choices were subconsciously becoming like a shield, protecting me from confronting my real emotions that were hiding behind all the flashiness of the story world. I had to get closer to Pancho, and in order to do that: I had to really look in to the mirror. I had to let go and lose control in order to regain control over the story, just like Pancho, to find that quiet but confronting truth behind the all visual loudness.
First, a huge thank you to Govert Janse (
@govertjanse ) for being the best Editing Supervisor I could have wished for. You taught me how to use style in service of story, always encouraged me to not give up on my vision, and simultaneously teaching me so incredibly much about story telling and the craft of editing.
And to Danielle Guirguis (
@smarthouse.studio ) thank you for guiding me through this process. You were more than a coach; you were like a therapist. Thank you for pushing me to go deeper and allowing me to be vulnerable.
And last but not least, thank you to the entire crew for making this film so beautiful and powerful. I couldn’t have done it without you all. 🤍
