You may remember Georgia from last year as she cycled 26miles and raised over £1,200 for Small Steps.
Georgia is now 10 and next Sunday, 24th May, she will go for 52miles!
In this interview conducted by a student on work experience, Georgia shares all about her inspiring project: what motivated her, the route, and why this means a lot to her.
Please do support her if you can, by checking out the link in bio. 🧡
We had a fantastic day at the Richmond May Fair with our cake stall last weekend! A huge thank you goes to the 21 wonderful people who baked and donated such a delicious variety of cakes, as well as to our brilliant volunteers who helped run the stall throughout the day. It was lovely to see so many families stopping by, enjoying a treat and supporting us. The day was a great success as we raised over £1,000 🎉🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
We are so excited to be doing it all again soon at Kew Fete on Saturday 20th June. If you are able to bake a cake or help volunteer on the day, your support would be very much appreciated. Thank you again to everyone who made the Richmond event so special 🧡
Wishing good luck to Olly, Ross, Henry as they are taking on the Trail Menorca Camí de Cavalls ultra marathon (58km) tomorrow, Saturday 2nd May.
Olly, is dad to our new Small Stepper Finlay who started to come to session only a few weeks ago.
He says: "I have set up a just giving page to raise money for an incredible charity called "Small Steps" which is very much close to my family's heart, as they help us with our son, Finn 💙.
The charity needs to raise £725,000 per year to keep the lights on, and if we can contribute anything towards that by putting our mid 30 year old carcasses through hell, we will."
Olly and his friends decided last minute to do this challenge in support of the work we do. They haven't done anything like this before and count on your encouragement, so please do check out the link in bio to donate 😊🧡
Huge congratulations to our heroes of the month: Paul, Abdul, Stephanie, Simon and Ben for their amazing efforts completing the London Marathon last Sunday, raising collectively over £18,700 for Small Steps!

And just like that, the summer term has started! This month, we came back from the Easter holidays with 110 families on roll! We are so pleased be able to support more and more Small Steppers, and they were really busy exploring exciting new topics. They started to travel the worlds, going to China and Italy. They also enjoyed some sensory stories like "We’re Going on a Bear Hunt", and they've been learning all about places in our community such as the high street.
And that’s not all! Outside our sessions, we’ve had some incredible support. The Mayor of Richmond hosted a fantastic quiz, BeRichmond donated some cuddly toys, Westwood Global Energy organised a brilliant cake sale raising over £900, and finally, a HUGE congratulations again to five amazing runners who took on the London Marathon, raising over incredible £19,000 for Small Steps!
This is how we are able to support more and more families! The effort and generosity means a lot to us and our Small Steps families 🧡

What a busy and exciting month we’ve had!
Our sessions have been full of fun as we celebrated World Book Day, Mother’s Day, and Easter together, but also birthdays and graduations!
We enjoyed a fantastic concert hosted by the Mayor of Richmond, and would like to say a huge well done to the amazing runners who completed the Hampton Court Palace Half Marathon, raising over £12,000! Rock Choirs in Reading and Henley also did a brilliant job, raising £950 with their quiz, and our very own Quiz & Curry Night brought in an incredible £12,000!
We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us this month! 🧡🧡🧡
February 2026 at Small Steps 👣
It’s been a short and sweet month, with three fantastic weeks of sessions!
The children have continued to make wonderful progress across all areas of development while enjoying exciting topics such as rain and cloud, nature, the office and bedroom, as well as sheep, cow and dogs. We also celebrated Valentine’s Day with lots of squishy hugs using our special heart pillow.
Outside of sessions, we attended a lovely piano recital organised by the @lbrutmayor , as well as a brilliant quiz hosted by @overburyplc . Both events provided a wonderful spotlight on the work we do, and we are grateful for the support we received.
Finally, James, an 8-year-old pupil from @brightoncollegeprepkensington , climbed Mount Longonot in Kenya and raised over £2,000 for Small Steps, what an incredible achievement!
Thank you all for your amazing support!
January 2026 at Small Steps 👣
We’ve had a very busy start to the new year and new term, with lots of exciting things happening both in and out of our building.
We are currently running 24 sessions a week for 96 children on roll, and we’re delighted to be welcoming new families. The children have been exploring a wide range of new topics this month, including winter and cold weather, storms and wind, bears and woodland creatures, fish and horses. They’ve also been busy learning about different environments such as the playroom and music room, bathrooms, cellar, attic, garden and shed; a very busy month indeed!
There were also plenty of birthdays to celebrate, including our very own team member Wendy!
Outside the building, we were pleased to attend Malanka, an event organised by the Mayor of Richmond to raise money for Small Steps. We also took part in a couple of local networking opportunities, which are always a great way to make connections and spread the word about the work we do, and the support we need to continue offering these sessions.
Finally, 20 wonderful walkers completed another Winter Walk, raising over £10,000. We’re incredibly proud of those who have taken part for three years in a row, they are amazing!
Today is the day and our fifth London Marathon runner is Ben!
Ben is a good friend of Simon, dad to our Small Stepper Max, who joined our sessions early this year!
Ben says: "Small Steps have been supporting Simon’s beautiful boy Max through all the amazing work they do."
Wishing Ben the best of luck as he only knew two weeks ago his plan for today - what a great thing to do! Please do support him if you can by clicking on the link in bio!
The London Marathon is in two days now, and we are pleased that Simon, Faye's uncle, is one of our runners!
Simon says: "I trust this charity because I have seen first hand the work they have done and the impact they have had for children like my niece"
Simon loves a challenge and will be running the marathon only a day after flying all the way from Singapore. Please do support him if you can, he is matching every single donation! (First link in bio)
Only 4 days to go before the London Marathon!
Today we’re shining the spotlight on Stephanie, mum to our Small Stepper Maisie‑May, who attended Small Steps from June 2021 to October 2023.
Stephanie recently shared her story on BBC Sounds, speaking beautifully about Maisie‑May, their time at Small Steps, the connections made with other families, and how running has helped her cope with the everyday realities of parenting a child with disabilities. 💛
Such an inspiring journey! Here’s what Stephanie also says: “Maisie-May has Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects just 1 in 50,000. For her, it touches every part of life. She can’t sit, crawl or walk. She’s non-verbal, has epilepsy, low muscle tone, and global developmental delay. The world moves fast around her — but Maisie meets it with fierce determination and quiet strength. When we found Small Steps, something changed. […] From the moment we walked through their doors, we were met with warmth, expertise, and a deep, unwavering belief in our daughter. […] Maisie’s team were extraordinary. They helped her begin to find strength in sitting, propping independently for the first time, reach with intention, engage with the world. They gave us tools to use at home so her progress could continue beyond each session. And in the hardest moments — when Maisie’s health was fragile, and we were barely holding it together — they gave her joy. They made her smile. And that meant everything. They didn’t just support Maisie. They supported me, too. It was the first place I sat beside other mums who just understood. We shared tears, laughter, milestones others might never notice — and I walked away with friendships that will last a lifetime. Maisie-May is now a proud graduate of Small Steps. I’m running this marathon for her — and for all the children still on the waiting list, hoping for the support we were so lucky to receive. The need is great. The impact is life-changing. And the work they do is only possible with donations. Please give if you can. Every pound helps another child like Maisie be seen, supported, and celebrated.”
