Blue corn cake of the spring
Berries will become fruit to pick
And devour
As the sun stays out longer
And our skin gets darker
Lemons for acidity
Nose scrunching, eyes shutting, the smallest face you could ever make
Poppy seeds laying their roots in defrosted soil
Getting ready to take on any turmoil
With their vermillion petals dancing in the valley of fire
As the summer temps rise
The corn stalks do too
Growing a ear, two ears, three ears hopefully forever more
Each tassel connected to a kernel
Until each kernel becomes rocklike
Ready to be grounded between two stones turned to meal
For us to remain
Nostrils flared, eyes wide open, teeth exposed
The biggest face you could ever make
Bellies full
Our souls too
