We visited the rainbow bridge today and had a picnic to sit with all of our furry friends who are now with us in spirit. It’s been a particularly rough year of loss and grief. We miss them and I cry for their humans. I find myself grieving a time that has not yet come. Cali spent time sniffing all the collars and souvenirs of fur babies we’ve never met almost as if she wanted to say hello to each of them individually. While I’m typing this a hummingbird flew up to her as if to say hello back.
Our whole lives are full of pain, suffering, loss and in response we naturally want shell up and harden our exteriors in the hopes of protecting our hearts from more. Yet, these little beings waltz right into our lives and show us how to love and trust and allow ourselves to be close to another again, despite the fear and inevitability of more pain and heartbreak that comes with living a full life.
We go through so much all the time. It’s insane to me that I even have the capacity to love and trust others given the treatment and experiences I’ve had in the past from other human beings. Cali is definitely responsible for busting open the locks I had and often try to rebuild around my heart and teaching me that there are some who are caring, kind, loving and worthy of trust with my vulnerability. Ones who will always be there to catch you, pick you up, and some who will lick your tears up till you’re no longer crying and can only smile and laugh (usually just the dogs lol 😅).
I am so grateful that we have our sacred furry beings to help heal and guide us and remind us who we really are and that we can be soft and open and safe with someone else- human or not. Thank you to @thebigpawproject for creating this beautiful place to honor the better halves of our hearts. 🧡
