gearheadz (giaheddo)
yokohama, japan, 2025
last year, i went to japan for the 2nd time, and spent a few days alone in the greater tokyo area. somehow, it was the most ‘myself’ that i had felt in a while.
gearheadz (giaheddo) observes expressions of identity and the cultivation of community through the medium of customized vehicles. often an essential tool of modern life, cars become more than just a means of transportation for some; they transform into designators of personal style, narrative, and pride.
a reflection on home, family, history, and time; something to call our own is a celebration of my house’s 100th anniversary. i wanted to create a space to honor the people and memories that last in a world so rapidly moving.
when i initially started this project, i thought that the gathering at my home would be the grand finale to my research and ideation — it was really just the catalyst for further exploration. my granny bought this house in 1992, when atlanta looked a lot different than it does now, and i can only imaging the city's landscape when it was built in 1925.
i’m so thankful for the friends and family that came together to commemorate this occasion with me. here are some photos i’ve gathered of the people i call home. ❤️
back in may, @maddieeschulz & i spent an afternoon zipping around atlanta’s style hubs for a story with @voguebusiness , asking shoppers what brought them out to the stores in a fashion economy that has increasingly become more digital.
had so much fun working on this one; thanks so much to maddie & @halsear for bringing me on board (& trusting me to use film) ❤️
