Twelve years ago, we promised children on a remote island in Lagos that we would build them a school.
A promise we never imagined would become our most challenging journey.
But this year, we kept it - and I am deeply fulfilled.💙
What began as an adventurous trip into some of Lagos’ most remote riverine communities - where hundreds of children played freely in the lagoon with no classroom or school in sight - became a 12-year commitment. We taught in small huts, supported local teachers, and never let go of the vision.
Today, that journey stands as the Slum2School Green Academy: a fully eco-friendly school powered by solar energy, with rainwater harvesting and purification systems, waste-to-biogas technology, biodiversity learning areas, and staff quarters for teachers.
Growing up, we were taught that our promise must always be our bond. Today, we proved that - to the children, the community, and ourselves.
This project demanded sweat and sacrifice, relentless determination, and an unexplainable zeal to defy all odds and bring education to this community.
My deepest gratitude to our incredible volunteers, board, staff, and partners
@slum2school - including Biomerieux, HP, Norwegian Embassy, Universal Music Group, United Airlines, Lagos State Government through Epe Local Government and SUBEB, and many others whose support made the Slum2School Green Academy possible.
Today, 250 deserving children are walking into their very first classroom, learning on full scholarship in a world-class learning environment built on dignity, sustainability, and the future.
This is what happens when courage refuses to give up on children - and when we unite to ensure that even the most marginalized are given the very best.
Our goal is to deepen partnerships with the private sector and government to ensure that every child in Nigeria and across Africa has access to quality education and that no child is left behind.
Join us. Visit: /greenacademy to get involved and together, let’s build a world where every child can reach their full potential. 💙
