Luxury Hidden in the Wild · Breathing with Nature Set within the mountains of Anji, the project explores an architecture of restraint—one that follows the terrain, settles lightly among trees, and gradually becomes part of the forest. Through minimal intervention and careful positioning, buildings dissolve into the landscape, allowing nature to remain the true protagonist. Here, luxury is defined not by form, but by immersion—an experience of living in quiet rhythm with the land. Urban Acupuncture: Revitalising Campus Space through Light Intervention Urban acupuncture is not about large-scale replacement, but about precise, gentle activation. Following the successful revitalisation of Daqing’s lakeside public spaces, this strategy extends naturally into another vital source of urban vitality—the campus. Located at the heart of Daqing Experimental High School, the site was once an idle transitional space between the cafeteria and sports fields. Through minimal intervention and respect for the existing structure, the project reactivates the space as a multifunctional “campus living room,” connecting dining, sports, learning, and social interaction. By introducing contemporary materials while preserving spatial memory, design becomes a catalyst—quietly injecting warmth, openness, and renewed energy into everyday campus life. Urban Acupuncture: Revitalising Campus Space through Light Intervention Cities are sustained by places where daily life gathers. On campus, this role belongs to spaces that hold memory, growth, and collective spirit. As Daqing Experimental High School celebrates its 40th anniversary, the project resonates with the school’s ethos of openness, research-driven learning, and resilience rooted in the city’s industrial legacy. The semi-circular plan offers a 180-degree visual connection, unlocking its potential as a social hinge that links movement, rest, and learning. More than a spatial upgrade, the intervention empowers education through design—transforming an overlooked corner into a warm, perceptible landmark within students’ shared memories. Landsee: A Social Hub Resonating with the City’s Spirit The Landsee Art Center is defined as a multi-functional “urban public reception room” — not just a physical space, but a dynamic platform that fosters creativity and promotes communication. It integrates art exhibitions, cultural salons, leisure socializing, and high-quality commercial experiences into one, becoming a multi-dimensional space that connects citizens, visitors, and the city’s culture. As a key cultural node in the Landsee area, the art center acts as a “boutique anchor,” driving the overall revitalization of the region. Through a carefully planned mix of uses and a 24-hour operational model, it transforms the formerly idle space into a public platform that continuously generates value. By blending art and everyday life, it gathers diverse groups of people, stimulates urban vitality, and becomes the central engine connecting citizens, visitors, and urban culture. Landsee: A New Landmark Revitalizing Urban Vitality by the Lake In Daqing, the “City of a Hundred Lakes,” the city is transitioning from its oil-industrial legacy toward a modern, livable future. The Landsee area, located in the heart of the eastern city, offers a prime location and natural beauty but has long lacked a central space that could unlock the region’s potential. In collaboration with the City Development Group, we have once again undertaken a project of urban renewal, reimagining the long-vacant “Wine Plaza” building and awakening the dormant vitality of the lakeside, creating a new landmark for non-standard commercial spaces in Daqing — the Landsee Art Center. Inspired by the concept of the “City of Ice and Snow,” the design utilizes a “light intervention” strategy to pixelate the building facade. White corrugated panels and perforated sheets create a lightweight, semi-transparent skin, allowing the building to emerge as a pure and dynamic form amidst the interplay of sunlight and lake reflections. The surrounding clear water surface extends the visual boundary, making the space feel as though it is floating between the lakeside, seamlessly merging nature and the city. As the sun sets, the warm golden light cascades over the facade. After dark, the LED screens light up, and the building transforms into a glowing ice crystal, becoming a window through which the city and the era communicate. Through its fluid visual language, the Landsee Art Center embodies the youthful, open, and innovative spirit of Daqing, infusing new life into the lakeside at night. The lakefront is no longer just a scenic view but has become a new public living room that carries the city’s imagination and cultural expression. The Rebirth of Dasi Alley: Recreating a Street Alley Home How to awaken a forgotten, closed corner and transform it into a vibrant, breathing home within the street? Located in the heart of Yongkang, a city known for its industrial heritage, this forgotten, enclosed space within the neighborhood was once constricted by limited windows and external wooden grilles, which blocked natural light and created a sense of confinement. The goal here is to completely reinvent this space, turning it into a lively gathering place that fosters community connection and urban memory. Following the original building’s “回” (return) shaped layout, the design introduces four surrounding “alley” corridors around a central courtyard, maintaining the traditional scale of interaction while also activating contemporary community experiences. By opening up the central courtyard’s skylight, we incorporated “daylight, wind, rain, and seasonal changes” as key elements of the design, achieving the essential transformation from a closed space to an open, breathing courtyard home. Through an ”unordered“ furniture arrangement, we broke away from the rigid format of commercial spaces, creating a relaxed, house-like atmosphere and the serendipitous encounters typical of street alleys. Before its official opening, the space attracted many young people, drawn by its unique charm. This project is not a mere replication of history; rather, it reimagines the traditional ”home alley“ space through contemporary design language, giving it a new life. As a mixed-use space that combines a café, cultural salon, and community living room, it adds a humanistic warmth to this industrial city, providing a new identity for the historical district in the context of contemporary urban development.
