The Sheriff’s Office made the announcement Saturday afternoon, after serving a search warrant at the location on Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office said it is committed to finding Smart’s body and bringing her home, and will use any evidence collected to further that investigation.

On Wednesday and Thursday, @slosheriff served a search warrant at the Arroyo Grande home of Susan Flores as part of the #KristinSmart case — marking the first extensive search of the outside of the property in decades.
Susan Flores is the mother of Paul Flores, who was convicted in 2022 of murdering Smart when she was a first-year freshman at Cal Poly. Paul Flores is currently serving out a life sentence in prison.
The search this week had investigators swarming the Arroyo Grande property, with a handful of soil scientists taking samples from the ground outside the home and in a neighboring yard.
