I am starting up a monthly cinema in bedstuy at @brooklynpeacecenter / @peacecafenyc w friends <3 Our first screening will invite an open call to all NYC filmmakers hoping to have their work screened locally. The filmmakers of Soil Story (2025) are hosting us at the Ridgewood Reservoir, the site of their exceptional film, to walk us through what it means to become acquainted with a place – to come to terms our environment. ​They will lead a workshop in Phytotype, a fascinating process to develop film using natural matter. Our "phytograms" will be used in their work. Materials kindly provided by the Soil Story team. ​The Soil Story team is Olivia Acuña, Shakti Mb, Laura Alvear Roa, and our very own Kiana Fernandez. Spotlighting 𝘒𝘐𝘋𝘚 𝘔𝘖𝘝𝘐𝘌, one of the never-before-seen films from our 2025 Collaborative Studio Cohort! Join us for a dreamy summer evening outdoor screening on 𝗦𝗔𝗧, 𝗝𝗨𝗡 𝟭𝟰, to catch this incredible film, and more, exploring the Brooklyn-Queens borderland of Ridgewood! 🍃 🌇 𝘒𝘪𝘥𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘦 is a portal into how kids see the world. It documents a series of filmmaking workshops in Ridgewood and Bushwick where kids learn basic cinema concepts and begin to visually explore the world around them. Through the incorporation of their footage, drawings, stories and polaroids, the kids become co-authors of the film. The film explores the juxtaposing histories and memories of the Ridgewood reservoir and the cemetery belt, two locations that straddle each other with the Jackie Robinson parkway cut in between. With both locations in conversation with each other, the film explores the cycles of time, space, memory and land development and disposal.
