AAAAAGGGHHH I have no chill about this whatsoever. So I wrote LoveSong in the grimmest depths of lockdown, with the giddy terror of not knowing if I had a screenwriting career to go back to and just writing, as Stephen King says, 'with the door closed'. LoveSong is a weird magical realism folk horror about fear of death, old gay goths, horror films, my complicated relationship with the British countryside, and magical women who just want to lie down in a wood and become moss. It's my favourite thing I've ever written and entirely the most autobiographical, despite the hero being a grumpy goth in his 80s. I've already met so many cool writers also on the list, and it makes me tremble with joy that my weirdest film script is the one that's broken through like this. So forgive me friends if I'm unbearable for a bit. Thrilled that my horrid little short film DEBRIS is having her premiere at @locolondon film festival at Brixton Ritzy (10th May, 4pm, in the "Dark Side" slot). It's my second film to play at Loco - my first, EGYPTIAN GEESE (about sexy geese) premiered there this time last year. I had such a good time I made it my mission to get something new in to this year's programme, ideally starring at least one human being. DEBRIS is that film. DEBRIS is a low-budge ‘no crew’ emotional horror-show about self-care, heartbreak and regrettable phonecalls. It was written, directed and everything else-d by me. The whole thing was shot in less than a day, and is elevated far beyond it’s meagre budget by a spectacular one-man performance from @johnlukeroberts , and the musical contributions of @hollyhenderson (her song Wendy) and @timbazellproductions (live drum score). Couldn’t have made it without @timbazellproductions who did the mix and let me do full Bavarian Sound Studio gore foley at his studio. Also special thanks to Daniel Lovegrove, Tatyana Birkadze (colour) and Saskia Wood for help and advice with the edit, and Dan Maier for a very special voice cameo.
