SLICK DOWN is back with the first night of our residency at @bossanovacivicclub with a love letter to Club music. We’re incredibly honored to have THE pioneer and architect of Jersey Club, @djtameil joining us for this night along with @djfreedem . DJ Tameil’s work carries a distinct physicality and electricity, and to experience it is to understand the contours of Newark and all the places from which the music springs. It is futurist, transcendentally joyful, and bursting with possibility. DJ Freedem engages with that lineage in their own distinct way, envisioning Club in exhilarating forms. Their process behind the decks is euphoric, relentless, playful, and entrenched in Black and queer underground traditions. How do we honor Club music and all that it’s given us? It’s a question that feels more material the further the sound travels. How do we hold onto its specificity, its roots in our communities, and its histories while it moves across the world? We have always tried to ground ourselves in the expansiveness of Black electronic music, how it travels, how it transforms, how it holds memory while making space for the new in its canon. As part of our @dwellerforever programming on Friday February 20th, SLICK DOWN presents: LENS ON ME, a panel conversation on the relationship between Black electronic music and place, focusing on the theoretical & practical notions of creating and sustaining Black sonic spaces in NYC and beyond. The incredible outpouring of love and support we felt on Saturday was overwhelming. We feel so held, so blessed, and so deeply encouraged by the experience. We hope everyone who spent the night with us had just as much fun as we had playing. We’re hard at work building some incredible things for 2026. Excited to share soon, but for now, enjoy these pics!
