MEET YEONG KIM: THE FACE OF SURE KOREA’S MONUMENTAL 150TH ISSUE
Sure Magazine Korea unveils its September issue with cover star Yeong Kim, the South Korean model captivating French designers and the fashion world alike. We delve into Kim’s unique perspective, shaped by both the runway and her background in psychology.
“How do you maintain your personal identity amidst the demands of the fashion industry?” we ask. Kim reveals her psychology studies provide a grounding force, enabling her to view modelling as more than surface beauty, but as a study of perception and emotion. She consciously separates “Yeong as a person” from “Yeong as a model,” preserving her personal life and passions beyond the demands of her profession.
For Kim, style transcends clothing, embodying one’s experiences and values. She echoes Yves Saint Laurent: “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” Her Korean heritage also deeply influences her approach, drawing inspiration from its colours, traditions, and the balance of restraint and boldness evident in designers like Lee Young Hee and Lie Sang Bong.
Kim acknowledges the challenges of navigating international expectations after strict academy-style training in Korea, where precision is paramount. She had to “unlearn” some aspects to embrace the individuality celebrated on global stages. When asked about comparisons to Rosé, Kim responds with graciousness, admiring Rosé as both an artist and a symbol of individuality. However, she remains steadfast in forging her own path, emphasizing her unique blend of composure and psychological depth within the fashion world.

This story begins before the flower exists. Nothing stands alone — every movement is caused, every stillness connected. The body remains quiet while fabric responds first. Cloth drifts, folds, and trembles like water stirred by unseen forces.
Color appears not as decoration, but as consequence. Red, shadow, and light overlap, leaving traces of becoming. The figure never performs — it simply allows change.
What emerges is not a flower, but the memory of one. A form shaped by relation, not intention. This is the lotus — understood only through motion.
