𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑹𝒖𝒊𝒏𝒔 2024 Paper marbling, spray paint, pen and ink on paper 11x14” ☄️ Here is another piece in a series of works I developed to be used as images in the 2025 @martian.press calendar (still available for sale through the link in my bio!) This piece was made using traditional paper marbling, pen and ink drawing, and masked applications of spray paint. 🏰 The various subject matters rendered in pen and ink for this series were heavily inspired by the tonal, conceptual, and aesthetic worldbuilding explored in a remarkable science-fantasy book series I’ve been reading recently called The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. Wolfe uses archaic language and Latin and Greek roots to create neologisms (a literary device used most typically in sci fi, but employed in a fascinating way throughout this series) and sets this story eons into the future on an Earth (“Urth”) orbiting a dying sun, where civilization has devovled into medieval-coded societies with autarchs and exultants travelling by screaming flyers, and a torturer-journeyman encountering mysterious technology and unexplained anamolies like teleportation mirrors, greenhouses unstuck in time, and giants in the sea. I love how Wolfe’s envisioned world meanders between societal and physical ruin, ancient myth, and futuristic technology so strange in its workings that it appears as magic or mysticism. 🌿 This original art piece is for sale! 𝑱𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒑𝒆𝒓 𝑴𝒂𝒈𝒆 2024 Paper marbling, spray paint, pen and ink on paper 11x14” 🔮 Happy almost New Year! Very excited to post a new series of original artworks here on my IG over the next few days. They were each scanned and translated into 3- or 4-color Risograph prints for the @martian.press 2025 calendar (still available for purchase through the link in bio!) ✨ Rather clumsily and through lots of trial and error, I taught myself the art of traditional paper marbling for this series, which I then combined with pen and ink drawing and masked spray paint. More on marbling and my creative process for this series in upcoming posts. 🌚 This piece was made specifically as a gift for a brand new human that was cooked up and brought into this world by two of my very best friends. She landed earthside only just a week ago, and to celebrate her and her parents, this image was used for her birth month in the 2025 calendar 💗💗💗 Except for this particular work, all 5 other artworks in the series will be available for purchase.
