The speakers’ success math is simple: it’s 70% how you look, 20% how you speak, and 10% what you say.
Where can you usually get images to show yourself performing on stage, etc. for your website and social media? Mostly from live performances, but only if ALL of the following happened:
1. You had the gig
2. There were photographers in the room during your performance
3. They managed to capture you on stage at the right place and right time
4. The light and angle were good
5. There was a proper slide on the screen behind you at the moment that shot was taken
6. Your expression doesn’t look weird (faces might look funny captured in motion)
7. You managed to get those images from the photographers later in good quality and with permission to use them.
OR
1. You get one session in the studio. Your images are ready to use a few days after.
2. ...well, that’s it. No need to wait months or years for the right moment.
How it works:
We’ll mock up your performance on stage; a proper slide will be applied later, looking like a screen behind your back. No happy accidents: from the multiple shots, you can choose only the best ones.
Same with the interview, a podcast, etc.
Honestly, the sky is the limit.
I can suggest some typical options like on-stage, interview, candid behind-the-scenes, LinkedIn banner, etc. – but if you tell me “I want my photo with a microphone, dressed in an Armani jacket and Quiksilver shorts, riding a surfboard with my name on it on Costa Brava because this is how I want to be perceived” – I say “What’s the budget?”

Two years ago, I did a “Roast My Headshot” challenge on LinkedIn. Twelve people were brave enough to send me their profile pictures to find out what was wrong with them.

It’s like a person understands the benefits of having a professional headshots but since right now their business is going well equals personal brand is working fine and there is no need to take care of it.

Well, guys, here is the bitter truth.
Personal branding (including upgrading headshots and other business imagery on a professional level) is not a CRISIS MANAGEMENT.
It will be impossible to pull off when you’re on fire, needing your headshot «yesterday» and hoping it’ll save you right away. Mostly because by that moment you’ll just be out of budget.
