Why should video production cost 2–5x more than photography?
First: because we spend hours/days - sometimes weeks - just finding the right music. And building a strong storyline means I usually work with at least 2-3 different tracks (+ original sound & SFX). I edit them to the perfect length and adjust the song key so everything matches the mood of the film.
And yes… my background helps a lot here - I spent 3 years in music school learning piano, and it still plays a big role in how I feel and shape every video. 🎶🎥
Cherry on the top - music is one of those hidden costs in filmmaking. 🎶 We pay monthly subscriptions (and often extra per track, because the perfect song was found finally somewhere else) just to license the right songs - not only to use them in our films, but also to make sure our clients can legally post and share their videos online 🎞️

Being self-employed isn’t freedom - it’s chaos if you don’t create balance. Life as a freelancer is actually quite unhealthy. No real structure, no fixed working hours.
I work 7 days a week - weekday shoots for business clients, weddings on the weekends. My weeks are filled with meetings (during the day and in the evenings), and calls often stretch into midnight with the US or late at night with Asia.
I’m available for my wedding couples on weekends and late evenings during the week - because that’s often the only time they have for planning and emails. Some shoots go late into the night, others start very early in the morning. And sleep? Irregular at best.
So I’ve started to consciously bring balance into my life:
✔️ working out & sauna 3–5 times a week
✔️ no alcohol
✔️ recently: (almost) no sugar
✔️ dancing tango
✔️ regularly escaping to Italy for my mental health 🇮🇹
Now I just need to figure out how to fit in two long vacations per year 😎

After a long, deep conversation today with Petra @wedding.melodies , I’m still thinking about my path as a wedding photographer & videographer. I’ve been in the wedding industry for so long - 20 years - and I’ve experienced so much. I’ve seen how the industry was built, how Instagram established itself, how video formats began to replace photography, and how so many photographers started out, competed, and eventually left the industry.
I’ve also witnessed the rise of wedding planners (yes - 20 years ago, hardly anyone in Europe had even heard of wedding planning, and we photographers were the ones who stayed with our couples from the very beginning until the very end).
About 13 years ago, I filmed my first video projects with huge cameras - and now I’m working so flexibly with small 4K and 8K equipment.
It’s incredibly exciting to see how the wedding industry continues to evolve - and even more exciting to know that through my work and my aesthetic, I’ve been able to help shape it, and for 20 years have had the honor of making so many couples happy.
