We’re beyond excited to present today’s artist - giants in Seattle rock,
@bylandmusic have been leading the charge in delivering incredible performances featuring an Allstar cast of talent. On this particular track, classic textures and dynamic arrangement couple with witty chord structures and playful treatment of tonality, resulting in an impossibly catchy ride into frenetic energy. The tension is palpable as eerie harmonic minor sneaks in and out of the first verse, and intrigue continues as Alie and the band toy with our ear, alternating major and minor roles to great affect throughout the remainder.
This clever interplay of tonality is brilliantly aligned with the lyrical center of the song about change and forward transition. Vignettes of moving out and moving on are peppered throughout the verses, and the refrain “Five more leaves since I showed up” offer up an environmental and seasonal representation of the change we all feel in the midst of any type of transition - that the very space around us is changing with or without us. Byland lean in to this middle space and create a sonic environment that is a wildly entertaining maelstrom of tantalizing pulses and waves of tension and resolution - an undulating sea of uncertainty that carries us all along to an anticipated future, and leaves us with more than a few delicious lines and melodies that will undoubtedly stick in your mind for a long time to come.
We’re immensely grateful and thrilled to share MONSTERA by BYLAND with you all.
