London designer @skinnedpotential ’s entire life has been intertwined with fish. At ten years old, she went snorkelling on holiday, and something shifted within her – she still considers taking photos of fish underwater as one of the most pivotal experiences she’s ever had.
Taylor first saw fish leather on the runway at Joe Boon’s CSM show around six years ago. “I immediately had to try it for myself,” she says. At the time, she was living near a fishmonger called Eddie’s Seafood Market. Now she’s making salmon leather dresses out of discarded waste from her local fishmonger 🐟️

Dear Ocean Scientists,
I am a fashion designer (recent masters graduate from The Royal College of Art) that specialises in creating textiles for fashion from fish waste, collected from local fishmongers. My work has been featured in places like The Guardian, ITV News and BBC.
I’m looking to partner with an ocean scientist(s) on a collaborative project for the European Marine Board Artist-in-Residence Programme ‘EMBracing the Ocean’ (application deadline 16th Feb).
For this residency I would love to research the potential of marine collagen for fabrics, along with the use of scales and fish leather (and more). However, depending on what you are working on I’m keen to adapt my work to explore and fit your needs for your line of research.
Please get in touch if you are interested!

A massive thank you to Erica Di Federico who conducted some fascinating experiments to find the Ultimate Tensile Strength and Tear Test of my fish leather with extensive analysis, comparing baby salmon vs old, leather made from smoked vs fresh skin as well as different directions of hide (sample cut transverse vs longitudinal). I’m super appreciative to have such expertise help with my project. #fishleather
This year has been hella random…and that resulted in a bioplastic football sock thing reinforced with margilan silk, using fish scales as the print
Scales are the by-product of making the fish leather; made from skin donated kindly by @moxonsfreshfish
