For every artist who puts in the work when no one is watching, when no one is listening, when you feel like giving up….DONT. Never in a million years did I think I could ever win a grammy with my name on it. I had given up on that dream but here we are. Thank you to EVERYONE who had a hand in this. Everyone who shared a post, answered a email, responded to a DM & everyone who voted. Wow…..just wow. 🥹🥹 God is the greatest!
I read somewhere that all songwriters should atleast play one instrument. I cant play any. I always felt like if you could it would make you a better songwriter. I always wanted to play keys. Yesterday I tried to really understand notes…I put tape on every key so I could see the notes cuz Im a visual learner. I can hear when a note is wrong but thats about it. Lol Once I figured out the notes in the beginning of “Funkin For Jamaica” I facetimed @thegavin1 cuz I wanted to impress him. Lol. he picked up the phone and I played for him and he started laughing. Then he walked into the room where his keyboard is and cut it on started to play with me and telling me what to do and how to do it. The closer I got to getting it right the happier he got. He walked me thru that whole process and we were on facetime for 35mins. Not once did he get frustrated or didn’t encourage me. Gav has played piano his whole life. But when I told him I wanted to learn it he helped me. Not once did he think that me learning how to do sumn that he does would somehow affect him. He helped me. And to be honest I wish everyone had a friend like that. Thank you @thegavin1

6 years ago during the pandemic I did a live DJ stream online and called it “The 90’s Girl Brunch” what I didn’t realize at the time was this “thing” I started would eventually create a family out of complete strangers who are still close to this day. 6 years later we are still supporting each other, showing up for each other and loving each other!
