Reel Talk with programmers Aryana Singh and Catharine Horsley 🎬 Read what they said about unhome directed by @skeletonpics This poetic documentary explores the impact of gentrification in Scarborough. It features three Scarborough residents who share their personal memories and reflect on the changes they have witnessed over the last 5-10 years in their neighbourhoods. Through their stories and scrapbook imagery, unhome explores the pain of nostalgia in the face of a lost community.   Director - Ella Saini Producer - Reese Barrow   Ella Saini (she/they) is a Filipino-Indian filmmaker based in Toronto. She is a mixed-media artist that loves to experiment with a variety of art mediums to visually and sonically explore ideas such as identity and culture, and to create platforms for social issues. #LeverageLens #ShortDocs #Toronto #Documentary #Filmmakers

Sharing our next @photoedmagazine x @thinktankphoto partnership feature with our very own Change Made youth artist Ella Saini @skeletonpics 💫 Ella is an emerging filmmaker based in Scarborough. Growing up in the East End, Ella was always drawn to social justice work, as she noticed the contrasting socioeconomic differences between communities. Coming from the filmmaking space, Ella worked on sets but sought more opportunities to grow her work locally. @changemade.studio allowed Ella to understand different production workflows from pre- to post-production. Elle shares, "Through each step of the production process, I learned so much about myself, what I need in those moments, and what to expect from the people I work with." Ella’s work is already championing change by capturing intricate connections between people and their environments, most notably with ‘unhome’, a documentary about the gentrification in Scarborough. To support her evolving creative path, our partners at @thinktankphoto equipped Ella with the PhotoCross 13, Turnstyle 5 V.2, and Lens Changer 35 V3.0. These products by Think Tank support creators on the go by offering comfort, durability, and ease of access to your gear when every second counts. Thanking our partners, PhotoED and Think Tank, for helping us champion Canada's next generation of visual storytellers! 📸: @alyssavidal #ChangeMade #photoedmagazine #thinktankphoto #mythinktank #thinktanktravel #VentureObserveConnect #canadianphotography #photography

Announcing HIROSHIMAS PER SECOND, a short animated documentary in development. As the world around them turns to paper and falls apart, two filmmakers and a psychotherapist piece together their repressed nuclear and climate anxieties. We, the directors of this film, Ella Saini @skeletonpics and Chen Sing Yap @bigbigturtle , will be subjects in the film itself. We'll be exploring our depression through Ella's animation, while UofT psychotherapist Anderson Todd connects the dots between nuclear anxiety and the funny feeling you get now when you realize winters get warmer every year! HA HA HA! FUNNY! We pitched this film at the 2024 Reel Asian Film Festival, where it won a production prize package. Anderson was last seen in Chen Sing's animated short film @feelingtheapocalypse , which saw use in classes and environmental events. As we develop this short film, we welcome active collaborations with mental health professionals, environmentalists, educators, and people with funny/painful feelings, to realize this film's potential for social impact. Got spicy opinions on climate media? Let's have a chat! "I think it's actually quite useful for people to know that not only are they not crazy, not only are other people feeling this way, but that the people who are all acting totally calm and confident like nothing is wrong, there's not some magic secret that they have that you're missing. They're just not dealing with the facts. " - Anderson Todd
