Little designs to be incorporated into the cover of a book project I’ve been working on for @skeletonmountie . Stoked to release the full design as well as the book. Real soon now. Bones inspired by mixing 1980s @powellperalta VCJ designs and WITCH’s Lazy Bones from 1975.

We had a soft opening last night for some close friends and family, and everyone who helped make this museum possible, and I can say Kolby and I were so happy with the overwhelming amount of support we received. Seeing everyone’s reactions to either a photo of them or a memory a piece in here triggered was amazing to witness first hand. I can’t wait to see it all again on opening day this Saturday. Here’s a peek at what you’ll see. And this doesn’t even touch what’s in the cases or some seriously amazing imagery from @msk8blake , @robnurmi and @montylittle47 . It was great to catch up with everyone last night, to see old friends who grew up on Maple Road skating our ramp checkout the entire wall dedicated to them, and to see people mezmorized by one off @powellperalta gear I’ve kept in storage since the 80s. Thank you all for last night, and for anyone wanting to check this out over the next year. It’s at the @richmondmuseum . For this post, I used Hells Bells which I skated to in my 1986 Oceanside Run, the year I got my pro model from Powell. I always considered it to be one of my better choreographed routines, so I thought it fitting for this milestone in life. I grew up skating in Richmond. Begging city counsel to put in a skatepark since 76. Me, Joe and Colin built the Richmond Skate Ranch 10 years later cause there was still no park in Richmond. Sean Mortimer and I basically got kicked out of every smooth dry place to skate here in the early 80s. Ultimate and Concrete were both in Richmond too. After all these years, the city is recognizing the importance skating had on it and it’s truly special to see. Thank you all again for this.

My son Kolby and I have been working closely with the @richmondmuseum to bring you The Maple Road Experience. An exhibit based around my career in skateboarding as well as in Richmond. Tons of memories from the 60s - 80s will be on display, and it will mainly be focusing on our backyard ramp, Ripping Squad, @richmondskateranch , @ultimatedist , Concrete Powder and @powellperalta tours. We’re in the process of setting it up now, and it’ll be open to the public on September 20th for nearly a full year. Very excited to show you all the finished product and look forward to seeing you at the grand opening on the 20th!

We’ve been working with the City of Richmond to bring you a really cool project which we’ll release more details on soon. While organizing my personal collection of skateboard memories for the project, I realized I had duplicates of a lot of items just sitting in a closet collecting dust. So, I’d like to sell some of my personal collection and down size. Profits will be going to self-publishing our book, which contains photos and story’s from the 70s-90s. So funds will go to a great cause. All these shirts are originals, almost all have never been worn. @powellperalta Mountie shirts have a CA number on the tags my mother in law would have to add for customs to sell in Canada, so they were imported by Ultimate in the 80s. Beaver long sleeves I wore, and one beaver t-shirt still in the shrink. There’s a Mountie Powell crew printed by Powell on a SkateOne sweater that might have been a one-off(?), I just didn’t really wear it, and two @transworldskate NSA Boarder War shirts from a huge pro contest TWS hosted in Stanley Park in 1985. The Beaver Mountie and Skull Skates boards are all originals in shrink wrap. Not sure exactly how we will release these, maybe eBay auction since it’s hard to price these and everything we can find similar on eBay is crazy expensive. But in the meantime, if there’s something you see in here that you absolutely need, send me a DM.

Powell would make these postcards for their riders to take on tour, or just sign and hand out to people. This was the inspiration behind making the Cliver cards with the Black Beaver re-issue board for sale on my site. If you were a skater back in the 80s, or have followed Powell since then, I’m sure you’ve seen this image or something like it. But, did you know that my postcard was flipped, and looked like I was riding regular instead of goofy? Not sure if it was a negative or it just worked better design wise or if anyone even knew before print. Funny story - I didn’t even know for the longest time. Well here’s the original photo as well, as I’m sure you’ve never seen it. On the back of the postcard, the caption said the trick was called a Prince Albert - a shove-it kickflip. But in reality, it was a nollie 360 shove-it. At the time I remember most people were doing them just like regular shove-its, but I’d always pop them by hitting that flat nose hard to the ground. Photo is by Jim Knight

More digging through the archives! Here’s another shot of the Ripping Squad ramp at Middlegate Mall in the late 70s. This shot is from the first and only time we held a contest on the ramp, instead of doing demos with the Rippers. It was a CASA contest put on by the one and only Monty Little, and consisted of a Vert and Big Air contest. Anybody remember this day? And does anybody remember the outcome? Pictured on the ramp from what I can tell in the first slide (please excuse any miss spelling): Al Harrison, Don Nimi, Cory Campbell, Rich Lien, Billy Morgan, Stewart Golinda, Drew Morrett, Dave Crabb, Sophie Bourgeois, Dave Riley, Mike Blake and Herman Hundle. Pictured in the last slide: @richardtlien I believe these are @robnurmi photos.
