Great opening night of the Suffolk Skateboard History exhibition at The Hold in Ipswich last night.
Thank you to @skatesuffolk for their hard work leading up to it. Proud to have been on double duties with my photos being displayed and one of my old videos being screened.
Thank you to all the skaters I’ve shot over the years, keep on keepin on and love to you all.
The photos are all on display for the month of November, go see it while you can.
Our last photographer feature, and by no means least, is @adamkjgould . Adam is a skateboarder and photographer from Felixstowe who has been a part of the Suffolk skate scene since skating and filming with his seaside crew S.o.o.n in the mid-00’s. Adam has also dedicated countless hours of his free time in the organising and preparation of the Suffolk Skate History Exhibition, so please send him some love in the comments!
We look forward to welcoming everyone to the exhibition, opening this Saturday 1st of November at The Hold Ipswich from 16:00 onwards.
We’re thrilled to showcase the work of Ipswich-based photographer and filmmaker Sam Barker ( @rebelwithoutabeard ) at our upcoming event at The Hold.
Sam has been documenting the local skateboarding scene since the early 2000s, capturing raw moments from street sessions to skatepark convoys across East Anglia. His iconic film Ipsvillage (2007)—featuring legends like Lee Blackwell, Nick Williamson, and Adam Howe—will be screened at the event, celebrating a golden era of Suffolk skateboarding.
Sam’s photography and video captures the buzz, flair, and tight-knit spirit of the scene from the mid to late noughties . His work stands as a proper tribute to Ipswich’s skate culture, and we’re buzzing to share it with you.

Andrew Stark was an active photographer from the early 1990s through the mid-2000s. If you spotted a photo of an Ipswich skateboarder in Sidewalk, chances are it was taken by Andrew! His photography inspired others to pick up a camera and it certainly played a major role in inspiring this project. From the beginning, Andrew insisted that only unpublished photos would be featured in this exhibit—making this event one you truly can’t afford to miss! Andrew has been truly instrumental in the Suffolk skateboarding scene. His meticulous attention to detail and mastery of composition mean his photographs consistently capture the very essence of skateboarding in the area. It has been a genuine pleasure collaborating with him on this project, as his work not only documents but also elevates the spirit of the community.

The next photographer to feature is Rob Salmon, a former skate photographer who relocated from Hull to the East of England in the early 2010’s. Rob connected with the local skateboarders on the now defunct Sidewalk Forum, which led him to kick up a strong bond with the Suffolk skate scene and the rest is history. In his time in the East, Rob documented, through photos and video, spots that were either fresh or well seasoned with a new wave of skateboarders (and Frank!) who were eager to stamp their mark on sacred ground.

Artist Tim Brown is the next photographer to be featured in our lead up to the exhibition. Tim’s contribution to the scene may be slightly more underground than our other photographers but is nonetheless incredibly impactful, with a mass of images documenting the very early stages of skate culture developing in Suffolk. Captured on his trusty Kodak Instamatic, Tim recorded the raw sessions that began to shape the strong Ipswich skate scene that we know today.

Next up in our photographer catch-up’s is Channon King, a Suffolk skateboard legend, who rode for Blueprint Skateboards and contributed massively to the exposure of the Suffolk skate scene in the 90s and early 2000s, via lengthy rails and navigating unconventional spots in style. Channon continues to skate to this day and manages to shoot a crisp photo or 2 when out on the session.

In the lead up to the Skate Suffolk exhibition at The Hold in Ipswich, we posed some questions to the contributing photographers to better understand their connection to the Suffolk area.
Starting us off is Leo Sharp, an internationally published and renowned skateboard photographer who has captured some of the world’s most iconic skateboarders through his lens. Leo has dedicated over 20 years to skateboard photography, previously working as Photo Editor for the legendary Sidewalk Magazine and continues to play a major contributing role to the UK skate scene today.

Since officially announcing the dates for our exhibition in November, @allaboutipswich have kindly helped us put up an outdoor display at Wolsey Theatre promoting the event as well as more information and a few teasers for what you can expect.
I highly recommend checking out and having a peek 👀
