50 years of Suriname’s independence… on paper.
But within me, before me and ahead of me, Sranan lives every day.
The roots I carry, I do with pride. These days, I identify as a Sranan Butterfly, my fluttering part:)
Most of my Surinamese-dutchies know the saying:
'Ik houd van me land! Ik kan het wel opvreten. Kijk hier, Kijk!'
Words I’ll never forget. Words that echo in my mind every time I remember lying on the couch with my late stepfather.
The food.
The music.
The multicultural richness we breathe in.
This year is special. Not only did my grandmothers reached ages of 80 and 85, but I also reflected on the land where they taught me to walk 32 years ago. And this year, I set foot once again on Brokopondo.
Connected to mother earth once more.
Home, once again.
The road ahead is long, but I truly believe that together we can continue to carry, grow and honor our enchanting cultural treasures.

Some BTS of processing Virtual Emographic or rather "Virtual Emigrated". A very precious journey but also an interesting mix of integrating Sranang Deusri "Surinamese German" into one melting pot.
