Red-belly black snake’s shedded skin. Incredible how it looks to have backed itself out, but has actually gone forwards through the mouth. Amazing that the skin covers the eyes too.
react\respond — a longitudinal exploration of non-verbal artistic dialogue.
221 images. 8 artists. 1 dialogue.

Originating in 2019 as an experiment to determine how artistic intent might be interpreted when stripped of verbal or written context, react\respond asked a simple, provocative question: could artists communicate exclusively through imagery?
The methodology required a monthly submission from a rotating lead artist, to which the remaining members of the group were tasked with providing a unique photographic reaction. This was not a pursuit of replication, but rather an exercise in phenomenological response — a visual articulation of the internal emotional and intellectual currents catalysed by the preceding work.
Initially planned as an eight-month project, the artists found such value in this method of communication that it extended far beyond its original scope, ultimately evolving into nearly three years of continuous artistic dialogue.
The first three chapters comprise 148 images contributed by Simon Harsent, Juliet Taylor, Ingvar Kenne, Sean Izzard, Danny Eastwood, Matthew Thorne, and Christopher Ireland. In the fourth chapter, the dialogue expands to include Krystle Wright, culminating in 64 images across eight distinct galleries.
The images within this post are from gallery 4.7 — with the conversation being started by Sean Izzard.

It could well be a marketing own goal in 2026, but we have created react\respond for desktop-only viewing — which does make the link in bio rather redundant. We recommend typing out the URL directly into your browser for the best results.

This is mine. Part of an iceberg having run its course. Finally washed up on the aptly called, Diamond Beach. Iceland.

Bring Back the Red. A great initiative from Red Cross Lifeblood and the Sydney Swans who donated their ‘red’ to raise awareness of the need for more blood donors during the colder months.
Special thanks to Isaac Heeney.
Always a pleasure to be involved.
