Do you remember the little thrifted wall cupboard my aunt Lucille gave me last year? Well, I gave it a lick of paint, and I think it looks much better here in the garden 💚

I always try to buy used furniture before I buy new and alot of the furniture in our home is either handmade by my husband, thrifted or upcycled.

Used, vintage and antique furniture has more character than the furniture sold today and is often unique, carry stories, and feature superior craftsmanship that is rare in modern, mass-produced items and nearly everything you see here in this reel is used preloved furniture.

I spent Monday and Tuesday filling in holes, our husky dug and Tuesday planting new plants, laying chicken wire in the raised beds and weed membrane, mulch, and compost over the wire as a deterrent.

It looked great until this morning when I realised he'd dug it all up. Do I feel defeated? No! Will I keep going? Yes! Am I in denial? Absolutely 😂

This space at the end of our garden was once used to store our recycling bins, bicycles,.plant pots, garden tools and scrap wood used for diy projects.

It has evolved over the last few years, and it's now a place I use to pot and repot plants and sit with a book listening to the birds.

I'm on my 20th book since the end of January, and I read mostly crime and thriller books with the exception of Flowers for Algernon and Dark Matter recently.

I also found The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows by John Koenig and Other Wordly: words both strange and lovely from around the world, by Yee Lum Mak so nice to own and flick through now and then

We made the large kitchen unit just over four years ago and when I say we, I mean my husband, and I was his trusty helper 💪

I sanded the unit, which took a few hours and mixed up a few different wood stains for the colour I liked, and then sealed it. My husband made the unit over a few days and it took me two days to sand, seal, and stain it.
.
I bought the large wooden bowl at a market recently.

We've been blessed with the weather over the last few weeks, and long may it last 🌞

We have most of our meals outside on the covered decking area, which we built off the house 8 years ago.

We made the wooden deck first, then we built the pergola and then we covered it with sheets of clear perspex attached to the pergola. I've even been known to sit here when it's raining.

I've alot of work to catch up on in the garden and right now fill holes our 10 year old husky dug when we were away.

We bought lots of plants compost, mulch, chicken wire, galvanised lawn pegs, bamboo canes and weed membrane to repair the damage, and I'll have to spend the next few days doing unnecessary work before I start all the work that actually needs to be done in the garden 🤪

Top tip, don't get a husky if you love your garden 🌿🌱

My style and interior choices are not for everyone and when we bought our first home in 1988 and started to decorate it didn't look like this 😂 Nor did it look like this when we bought our second home in 1994 and this cottage in 2004 and it has evolved over the last 20 years.

I've always loved old furniture, antiques, salvaged and used furniture with character, and I've been upcycling furniture since I can remember.

My love for diy and upcycling furniture was inspired by my aunt Lucille, and I've great memories helping her give furniture (that was passed on to her by her mother) a face-lift in her garden in the 70s. I'd be rewarded with jaffa cakes and a glass of apple juice 😋 Great times ❤️

I've a busy weekend ahead catching up on the garden and filling in the holes our husky dug when we were away on holiday 😫

I'm so thankful for six decades of resilience, accumulated wisdom, deepened self-awareness and the freedom to prioritize joy over obligation.

Its a time in my life when I now have the ability to pursue personal passions, with more financial stability and less concern for others' expectations and the ability to live in the moment without the pressures of youth.
.
I value long-term friendships, partners, and family, and I have rekindled old friendship. I'm so thankful for my body's strength to carry me this far, the ability to adapt to changes and being content with who I am ❤️

I'm blessed to share my life with my wonderful husband, beautiful girls, and our gorgeous new grandson Zack ❤️
