Grid post because last night’s @chameleonsbandofficial + @_theveldt show at @mohawkaustin was just THAT mindblowingly great and- let’s be honest- Single Lash would not exist in any recognizable form if 16 year old Nic hadn’t stumbled upon Chameleons and followed them down the twisting garden path of shimmery 80s post-punk. The band has shredded my soul into thin strips each time I’ve seen them but the performance last night had something extra. Maybe it was the light of the Full Flower moon, but when they started into ‘Perfume Garden’, I passed beyond all space and time. What a privilege to experience.
The Veldt was clearly feeling the cosmic energy too because they stormed the stage like they were on a divine mission. With 32 strings between the five musicians on stage, I just closed my eyes and let the guitar bliss wash over me like a warm wave. And even with all that, Daniel Chavis’s soulful voice was able to soar comfortably through the storm.
Both of these bands are one of one.
Single Lash exists because of bands like this that ignited an all-consuming adoration of music in me early on. Last night was like reconnecting with the source.
