Behold the world’s first bottled-in-bond kosher for Passover spirit! Thornton Distilling and Single Cask Nation have been working together since 2020 to bottle exceptional single cask rum and this year we released a truly remarkable barrel that is a first of its kind. Skurnik Wines is distributing this limited barrel to stores throughout NY and NJ, also creating options for individual stores to ship to most states in the U.S. So what does Cask #236 taste like? Nose: A wonderful mix of pecan pie and pineapple upside down cake. Add a side of apple crumble, a box of Cinnamon Mikes & Ikes, and warm caramel and we’ve may just entered our favorite patisserie/candy store. Very warming, very inviting. Palate: A fair bit brighter than the nose led on... the flavors lead with unripened mango and fresh pineapple with a dusting of cinnamon. This is followed Crème brûlée, spun sugar, and tinned peaches. The texture is soft but there’s a touch of pepper and spice. Finish: Lasting fruits, a pop of vanilla bean ice cream and more of that dusted cinnamon. Another wonderful whisky masterclass for the books. The theme was all about cask finishing/extra maturation and we looked at the topic through the lens of 5 lovely new SCN whiskies. It was great to return to the Galaxy Gala in Austin. Such a fantastic event put on by some of the best, most passionate whisky folk in the states. Thanks Austin TX! It’s always great coming here! We’re so excited to return to the Independent Spirits festival tomorrow! It’s amazing to know that there are SCN Nation family members who come far and wide to say hello. A bit over two years ago, after we bottled this beauty, we sent the freshly emptied Wild Turkey barrel to our friends at Marlowe Artisanal Ales (in Mamaroneck NY) to collaborate on a very, very special beer. Today that beer is being released (as two variants) at the brewery starting at 11am. I’ll be there today to help celebrate the release and am bringing this, my one personal bottle, and will be sharing pours of this to folk who are keen to get a taste. This is our famous (infamous?) “Raiders of the Charred Oak” single cask. Bottled at full cask strength: a whopping 63.95% ABV. 10 year old Wild Turkey matured on the 6th floor of Camp Nelson Warehouse B. It’s not often you get to taste a 63.95% Wild Turkey. In fact, it’s almost never. It’s also rare to taste the whisky that was in the cask that the beer was then matured in. Today is going to be a special, special day.
