The other night I dreamt my body was formed from the ash of a thousand prayers. Small ones. Fervent ones. Declarative ones. Each, sealed into the embers of a burning joss stick. I understood it to mean, we are shaped by the words we speak.
A gust of wind took me high above the city. I became formless. Below in the homes and buildings, choruses of private prayers rang out. Once heard, the wind sighed and fell silent. With that, each speck of ash fell to the streets below.
One by one they gathered and became mountains, forged by the many thousands of prayers whispered by others.

The film, narrated by @stephanieatalaofficial , co-directed by @singjlee and myself, was born in collaboration with global creatives, musicians and storytellers from Hong Kong, Egypt, Rwanda, Lebanon, Iceland, Bulgaria, and the United States. In the room, our sis @tiwasavage blessed the stage. Thank you to our incredible team & friends who made everything happen in record time.
Eighty years of the UN is eighty years of the human story. The record has not been perfect but the UN has stood as a mirror of our shared effort to live with one another and take care of this planet we call home.

Lee, co-written with Christopher Chen, stars Hiep Tran Nghia, Phi Vu, Dali Benssalah and Dustin Nguyen in a film that follows the abduction of an elderly Vietnamese taxi driver in Orange County by three prison escapees. As the film unfolds, viewers experience a unique Vietnamese American story that unravels power dynamics and tensions not often unraveled and told on the big screen.
#TheAccidentalGetawayDriver originally premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where Lee received the Directing Award in U.S. Dramatic for the film. Gold House is proud to have been an early champion since Sundance, and we can’t wait for audiences to enjoy Lee's introspective filmmaking style and the hard work of the entire team behind this film.
