A common question we’re asked is “what should I do if I disagree with my insurer's decision?” If you disagree with your insurer’s decision in Ontario, you should: 1️⃣Request a detailed explanation in writing. 2️⃣Gather supporting evidence such as repair estimates, expert opinions, or additional documentation to strengthen your position. 3️⃣Avoid signing any settlement or waiver until you have fully reviewed your options. Is the Dog Owner's Liability Act (DOLA) fundamentally flawed? Shane Katz recently joined CBC’s As It Happens to discuss a critical gap in Ontario’s animal liability laws. Following a case where his client’s lawsuit was dismissed because she was legally deemed the “owner” while pet-sitting. Shane explores why the Act’s current definition of ownership is creating unintended consequences for victims of dog attacks. Listen to the full segment here at the link in our bio. (Shane’s segment begins at 1:03:52) We want to know what you think: Is it time for the Ontario Government to revisit and clarify the DOLA? Let us know in the comments👇

The legal definition of a “dog owner” in Ontario is broader than you think. Under the Dog Owner’s Liability Act, anyone in possession of a dog may be legally considered as its owner. Shane Katz sat down with CBC to discuss a recent case where this exact definition prevented an attack victim from seeking compensation for their injuries. This Mental Health Week, we are focusing on a critical, but often overlooked area of personal injury law: Psychological Injury. The psychological impact of an injury can be just as devastating as the physical impact. If you’re experiencing psychological damage as a result of a traumatic accident or life circumstance, it’s important that you have a legal advocate acting on your behalf. At Singer Kwinter, we believe your mental health is just as important as your physical recovery. #SingerKwinter #PersonalInjury #MentalHealthWeek

#LawTip: Experiencing a major loss to your home, property, or business is a stressful event, but your first move is important. Your initial call must be to your insurer. Delaying your call can result in issues if the insurer believes that their ability to properly investigate the claim has been compromised by the delay. When reporting a loss, make sure to only provide information that you know. Do not speculate or guess how the loss happened, or the amount of the loss, unless you have a reasonably good idea. By giving the insurance company inaccurate or uncertain information, you could jeopardize your claim. #SingerKwinter #PropertyLoss
