After a completely sold-out weekend of dance shows (yes, even the matinee), we pulled back the curtains and let the beautiful afternoon sunlight flood the space through the boxed windows.

Since 2013, Little Boxes Theater has existed for one purpose:
so queer, weird, messy, brilliant artists can survive — and create.
We didn’t build this place for fame or profit. We built it because our community needed a home. Over the years, we’ve: • Renovated spaces into thriving performance venues. • Fed artists — literally, with home-baked lasagnas. • Given shelter when friends and strangers had nowhere else to go. • Distributed $25,000 in emergency pandemic relief — no applications, no questions asked.
We’ve carried countless artists through their hardest moments while quietly losing the ground beneath our own feet — housing instability, family illness across the country, and the ongoing struggle to keep our own dreams alive.
And still… we’re here.
But we’re carrying the weight: • $38,000 in COVID EIDL debt • Rising operating costs • Grants denied or reduced • A lease ending in September 2026 • No permanent home of our own — still couch surfing, still grateful, still exhausted
Little Boxes is more than four walls — it is a laboratory for risk, for audacious experimentation, for art that bites and refuses to behave.
A place where failure is a sacred act of creation.
A home for voices underfunded, underestimated, and historically ignored.
To keep going — we need the community we’ve held up to hold us, too.
