Himachal is not just about mountains, waterfalls, and snow; it has a rich and vibrant culture that everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime. One such beautiful festival is Kartha Fagli, also known as Paldi Fagli.
I have been covering Fagli for the past five years in various parts of the Kullu region, and each time it offers a completely new experience. This unique festival is dedicated to Deity Kartha Nag.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Kartha Fagli is the 13-foot torch that arrives from another village late at night, adding an air of mystique to the celebration.
Some believe this festival is a harvest festival, while others say it symbolizes the defeat of negative energies. However, the actual history of the festival remains unknown.
To my fellow photographers, I have a humble suggestion: whenever you attend festivals in the rural parts of Himachal, always respect the local culture and follow Dev Niti (religious protocol). If you are asked to switch off your cameras, please do so. Some rituals are meant to be experienced, not recorded. #shotoniphone
