I thought there would be more time to photograph these tulips at the park. In a two week span, the Tulipa saxatilis with their distinctive lilac petals and yellow centers are curled up... maybe my timing will be better next year

In my neighborhood, most of cherry blossoms have washed away in the rain, and redbud tree blossoms are wilting. Looking down at the good earth, Aquilegia, Phlox subulata, Osteospermum, Bluestar are blooming at parks and gardens. It's an exciting time for me with so much plant life to explore and admire ~♡~ there will be many more colorful and joyful flowers to come throughout the month of May ~♡~ 😊

Where I live in New York City and Jersey City in New Jersey, the most common varietals of Double cherry blossoms are the Kanzan or Kwanzan that come in dark to light pink. You'll recognize them for their fluffy multi-tiered petals and larger size than the earlier blooming Yoshino. The neighborhood trees are bursting with full blooms after a record three days of summer like hot weather ☀️🌸🌳✨️ ~♡~ enjoy and stay well 🍀

I dedicate this post to my late mother, Lily. She was the 'Ultimate Pink Lady' who loved pink and red, adored Queen Elizabeth II, food and laughter, gardening, cooking, the occasional trip, cats, and above all, family.
◇
She passed away on January 31, 2026, after surviving lung cancer (Mom never smoked) and battling a rare progressive and degenerative disease called Cerebral Ataxia. As of now, there's no cure or treatment. My hope is for doctors and research centers to undertake clinical trials (one day) for lesser known diseases.
◇
I'm still marking each day since her passing. Watching spring awakening outside reminded me of my mom at her vibrant best before the onset of sickness and old age, puttering in her Brooklyn kitchen and cooing over healthy green onions and anything in bloom out in the backyard 🌱🌺✨️🕊
