8 weeks ago my life changed forever, for the better.
Most people who know me, know my struggle with patellar instability over the last 16 years of my life. It started as a simple knee dislocation when I was 10 years old, but that was how I found out that anatomically, my kneecaps have always sat a little too high and a little too off to the side, which meant I was prone to frequent subluxations (partial dislocations), especially after that first dislocation.
Over the last 16 years, my right knee has subluxed at least 40 times, if not more. It got to a point where I couldn’t walk, run, jump, squat, or go down stairs without being extra cautious because it was that easy for my kneecap to slide out. My knee has subluxed (and I have consequently fallen) on busses, while going down the stairs, while running, while standing absolutely still, so many more. According to my surgeon, my knee was one of the worst he’s worked on.
8 weeks ago, I got a combination surgery (TTO and MPFL reconstruction) to fix this problem. It’s been tough. I wasn’t able to lift my leg up straight until week 5. I wasn’t allowed to start walking on both feet until week 6. And I’m still working on being able to bend my knee to its full range of motion. I still have a long way to go, but the me from 16 years ago would be proud of where I am now.
special shout-out to the friends and family that checked in on me, supported me, and helped me get through these 8 weeks. Especially my BAA, MASI & MOM ♥️
This past weekend I had the distinct honor of not only attending a beautiful traditional Indian wedding, but to be involved as a groomsman to support my long time friend @teshkh and his beautiful bride @simply__sim
This event has left me forever changed after witnessing the truest form of love and support from multiple families, traditions, and cultures. Not to mention the amazing bridal party I cannot wait to see again. Such an amazing weekend… we should repeat it once a year!!! Love you Hittesh and Simran. #simhitthejappot #congratulations
