the damage from the summer of 2023

this past summer was a particularly brutal one where so many cacti were burned, some to the point of death. this particular cactus is from my parents yard.

the ponderosa project
•
i traveled up north to stay with some family friends & photographed the wilbur fire of 2023 that was caused by a lightening strike. a large area was effected by this fire which forced the locals to evacuate. however, the eco system in northern arizona relies on naturally caused fires in order to continue the cycle of death & rebirth. many of the ponderosa pines i photographed only had damage on the lower halves of their trunk (aside from the one tree shown) but were still alive & thriving. the resilience is outstanding.

rest peacefully, enjoy stillness, wake up with ease. take care of yourself and other women around you. support one another and wrap them in blankets and flowers. hug yourself and those around you. it’s all love.

every structure you’ve ever known
one collision with me
rearranged your world entirely
your eyes
were never so wide as when looking through mine
but the catalyst
lives a lonely life
dust and ice
is a form i could hold
but i’m gettin cold
running on empty
gonna need something with density
to crush this soul
back into my celestial body
to be the comet
is to burn
brightly
incinerate me
