today is Sadeh, an ancient iranian festival honouring the birth of fire, and symbolising the victory of light over darkness. 50 days and nights until Norooz, the name Sadeh itself means 100. the darkest days have passed, and the hope of spring is in sight.
in these incredibly dark times, i hope we can all stand with oppressed people fighting for freedom across the world. we’re living in ever-growing darkening times, but with solidarity, hope, and light, i believe we can truly go into a brighter, freer future. power to everyone across the world fighting the good fight in whichever way they can.
the song is called booye gandom by Dariush, and takes me back to my dad singing it late at night. i’m fortunate to know now my dad is home and safe, but sadly, that’s not the reality for thousands upon thousands of people within Iran and across the diaspora; a collective grief veils us and in these times we need solidarity more then ever.
the lyrics are roughly translated as:
“the smell of wheat is mine, everything I have is yours, a piece of soil is mine, everything I do is yours, the smell of wheat is mine, everything I have is yours, a piece of soil is mine, everything I do is yours”
free iran, free kurdistan, free palestine, and every other group of people that fight to throw off the shackles of their oppressors.
curiosity killed the cat (but satisfaction brought it back) - by mum + me
i made this animation when i was back in coventry a few weeks ago with my mum - i’m thinking of making it part of a wider series of animations about idioms that have shortened over time, and in doing so the meaning has been completely reversed. it’s a really curious thing to me, and i’m not really sure how this phenomenon ended up occuring.
anyway, i was sat with my mum chatting about it, and asked her to explain a situation where the original idiom could apply, and this animation is the result of her story.
music's from donkey kong lol
been ages since i got round to making an animation, hopefully can do more as the autumn comes around - this one is based on the mardomgiah (or mandrake), which translates as humanplant. in mythology it’s belioeved to make the person who carries it beloved by all.
the song is az yad rafteh by bita - a song my dad has always loved, the lyrics are (really roughly translated below)
Oh, you always remembered me, you always pushed me away
You always saw my silence, you always read my gaze
Finally, you saw me, I left you, I left you, I left you, I left you
If you became a fire in you, I fell without you, I am destroyed, with you I am prosperous
If you became a storm in you, I would see the boiling in you
Finally, you saw me, I left you, I left you, I left you, I left you
You separated me from me, look what you did to me
What did you do, what did you do, you broke my pride, you abandoned my constant patient heart, you abandoned me

The online nature of this program made a particular case for how artists engage with their practice and one another. Working across time zones, geographies and contexts, the residency did not coalesce into a shared physical space. Instead, it unfolded as a distributed condition of working together while “emotionally holding hands”, as one resident coined. Within this structure, participation naturally shifted, shaped by time constraints, availability and the limits of attention.
The creative potential of this hybridity echoes what Édouard Glissant describes in Poetics of Relation: a way of thinking connection without requiring uniformity or full transparency. Here, relation is not built through proximity, but through exchange in partial presence. The works that emerged reflect a wide range of positions and methodologies, each shaped by this condition.
The residency’s internal dynamics were also informed by an approach developed at Malmö Art Academy, initiated by Mary Kelly, referred to as “The Method.” In this format, the presenting artist remains largely silent while the group engages in a collective discussion of the work, avoiding value judgments or assumptions of intent. The emphasis shifts toward describing what a work is doing, rather than what it is supposed to mean. Conversation becomes a space of collective articulation, where meaning emerges through description, hesitation, misreading and negotiation. Within an online context, this also reveals how attention is distributed and sustained.
Taken together, the residency raises a broader question: what can an online residency achieve in a time of digital fatigue? Conceived as an accessible and democratic format, it enables connections across distance, bringing together practices that might not otherwise intersect. What emerges is not a unified voice, but a field of relations where practices meet, diverge, and remain only partially connected.

RESIDENCY RESEACHER

We started this program out of a yearning to do something within the light of the ongoing shit show on this planet, and the small scale tender prospects operates on. Hosting this residency online allowed us to connect with participants from different walks of life, countries, backgrounds, and opportunities.
We’re all navigating very different realities: some with stability and ease, others without. That unevenness shapes how freedom and solidarity are lived, not just imagined.
If you are born into a country where you can still walk to a supermarket, pay for groceries, have a thing called ‘weekend’, a job that gives stability and a future prospect - that’s a luxury and a token of luck. We’re all in this together, living and dreaming very similar things under the same sun. Attacks on freedom and solidarity are attacks on all of us. Don’t wait until they harm you directly to realize that.
Art and literature serve democratic purposes: they bring us closer to ideas that might live far away from us. They allow their makers to find ways to canalise and convey visions on different ways of living. They communicate in other ways than the overrated rules of words we use in languages we unconsciously consented to as being universal.
Come by this Saturday for a slice of cake, a hug and seven projects that might make you rethink some things you take for granted, however big or small. 🥧
🖌Join an animated stop-motion design workshop for kids with @milladkhonsorkh , where creativity comes to life through stop-motion. The experience begins with a visit to the "Connections" exhibition, sparking ideas from the artworks on display.
Back in the studio, children will imagine and build their own characters and miniature worlds, exploring shape, colour, and movement. Using simple stop-motion techniques, they’ll bring their creations to life frame by frame.
Playful, hands-on, and inspiring, this workshop nurtures imagination and creative confidence – each child leaving with their own short animation and the skills to keep creating at home.

We created the Voices programme to bring high-impact, values-aligned change-makers to Harvest, amplifying their work through access, community, and storytelling while enriching the depth, diversity, and impact of the overall experience.
Over the last few weeks; ideas, dreams, and visions arrived in our inbox across borders.
Each application carried reflections on imagination, community, and the many ways their owners are working to carve out more consciousness in their corner of the world.
Following a prolonged period of assessment, we are honoured to welcome the Harvest Voices for Chapter 10: Imagination – Millad Khonsorkh (@milladkhonsorkh ) and Gio Israel (@seekers.universe ). We express our heartfelt gratitude to all of our applicants for sharing their stories, work, and imagination with us. Each of your voices are an essential part of this growing global community.
We look forward to welcoming Millad and Gio to Harvest Kaplankaya 10: The Imagination Chapter this May.

We’re meeting across six different time zones, from Southwest China to Alaska. Each week, we come together online for 1:1 studio visits, as well as group sessions where we share, analyze and give feedback on each other’s work.
There was an overwhelming number of applications for this program, for which I am deeply grateful. As most of you know, tender prospects is a one-woman initiative, and you never know whether an idea that lives inside one’s own mind resonates with others. During the interviews I realized how many of us are longing for community, to share work in its early stages and feel less alone in striving towards better ways of inhabiting this planet. Whatever that might mean.
Take a peek at the residents’ projects as they continue to develop over the following weeks. They will culminate in a group exhibition opening on April 18, both online and at tender prospects, from 17.00–20.00. You are all warmly invited. 🌹
