Too deadly to get a surf and do some mentoring with the Wadandi academy students last week. Got to run a session on wellbeing, cultural identity, how to tackle racism and surfing as a great outlet to stay connected. Awesome group of groms and a lovely day on Boodja. Thanks to the moort for having me and allowing me to have a yarn. 🤙🏾🥰✊🏿😎🌊🏄🏾♀️🏄🏿♂️
Pretty amazing few weeks, coached Bails bball team to a grand final Father’s Day weekend and the boy took out MVP. Took family to connect with their favourite birds and Ty shared a laugh, huge honour to MC the amazing Ngaparrtji Ngaparrtji Two-way Science conference with deadly Elders, knowledge holders and team.healing from 4th surgery going well after 2 years and jumping back into the fresh and salt water, surfing by Xmas hopefully. Love to dads out there and family
50th year of NAIDOC celebrations this week. We were meant to do a family trip on country in the Pilbara but I had to have another double osteotomy (4th surgery in two years). So instead we stayed on Noongar Boodja and our family was privileged to be involved with celebrations and ceremonies, esp Bails who got to dance with @ngalak_nidja@corroboree_for_life@aliwahculturalenterprise Thanks to these amazing leaders, groups and their Elders, they define the theme this year of strength, vision and legacy. Also to our Yindjibarndi, Pilbara, Wadandi and other Elders and families from across the Countries, thank you for all you do. Finally, it was also very special day yesterday as our special Ngurra on Mururjuga was finally granted work heritage status for over 1 million rock arts that reflect our lore, culture, songs and stories. Thanks to our ancestors and old people, this quote also represents their strength, vision and legacy;
At a meeting of the world heritage committee in Paris, the Murujuga cultural landscape was acknowledged as a “manifestation of creative genius, inscribed in the landscape since deep time”. What a way to finish the week ❤️💛🖤🎉
My Stab article is free and available now, please have a read. Link is in my bio or search /premium/pc-woke-or-genuine-connection-and-respect/ note I have been given permission from Elders to speak about what I have learnt on Wadjemup/Rottnest and the Wadandi Boodja/margs region where I was born. I always make it clear I am Yindjibarndi and not Noongar, always state that I don’t speak on behalf of Country or community. I have been asked to do welcomes because of peoples lack of understanding between a welcome to county and acknowledgment of Country and I always make sure to outline this. I am involved in this work as an Aboriginal surfer who connects learning from local, state , national and global Indigenous cultures. Anyone who needs clarify on this please DM me. Love and thanks❤️💛🖤
Happy mums/grannies/gundat/aunties day, thank you for all you do, particularly my wife, mum and gran. Also thinking of those who have lost their mums and loved ones and those who aren’t able to see theirs or their kids, knowing it’s a hard day for many. Love u all very much ❤️❤️@chrissyzuva@michellebroun
Got to take my new craft that my mates gifted me for a few surfs. The board shape and design is so sick @lsdsurfboard@mattias01 and incredible artwork is lovingly painted by my bro @otishopecarey (it was the hardest wax up over ever had to do!) I’m still limping 20 months later and have got a long road ahead but was stoked to do some poo man turns and get a head dip at some of my favourite waves🥰🎉🤙🏾 thanks everyone for the love and support ✊🏿ps dingo approved-proper river dog! Pps Tylerzuvich filming credits❤️
I don’t want to get too emotional or sentimental (hard for me!) but yesterday I was presented one of the best surprise gifts of my life. A core group of my best friends secretly organised a custom-made board exactly the size I need right now and then it was lovingly hand painted by brother @otishopecarey which brought tears to my eyes and healing to my heart. I’m incredibly grateful for such loving and caring friends and family as I keep recovering slowly from this injury. I will surf this board as I rehab and then hang it on the wall for the rest of my life ❤️ thanks to all da boys tagged and those not on socials, in particular @mattias01 and @tom_e_l always here if any of you need me✊🏿🤙🏾👍🏽🥰🎉
Wellbeing and healing update, 18 months into injury and leg bone growing back bowed so more surgery highly likely plus had heaps of referred pain on the other side of body🙄 had a cry, cracked the shits and drove to Katter Kich/wave rock solo to camp and watch it come to life for the first time. Got to get the biggest wave I’ve ever had then down to Wadandi boodja for some more healing from @wonitji and connection to sis @ambee06 and her family. Got some waves and can’t thank my wife @chrissyzuva and boys enough for their love and understanding that I needed to take some me time to accept it all. Very grateful as always to friends, fam, country and culture❤️🥰🤙🏾🎉
Wadandi boodja celebration and healing🥰❤️🎉 now@to loose some weight and drop to a mid range, still a long road to build up leg muscle but surfing at Injidup was special. Ps Aboriginal flag says no longer will Libby or Dutto stand behind or in Front of me 😂
