Woohoo! Just picked up the test pressings of the new THE BASTARDIZER'S BEAUTIFUL RECORD - the new folk LP I've done with Sonke!!! Sadly I only have a $79 Aldi portable gramophone so I'm not 100% certain it justified the extra $250. If I'd thought any of this through we wouldn't be in this situation... it's not the first time this has happened. Retail copies due in four-six weeks. (I thought the guy said 46 weeks when I ordered them! I was all like "fucking hell are they being pressed on Venus!?") THIIIINNNGGGS!!! Here's 3 snaps of Sonke and me from the fab O'Kranoplans turn at the #thornburylocal open mic last wednesday - cheers Gonzo! We did 3 tunes including a couple of old #pinkstainlesstail numbers. Folks were bopping in the aisles and I flogged $20 and a pint's worth of merch. Thanks to all the punters who came down and especially Dylan Elliott for lending us the axe and amp. His set was banging too! See you all again soon!
Probably the last of the holiday snaps. Here I am on the banks of the Don on Kelham Island in Sheff opposite the Fat Cat with the famous mural of my old nemesis Jarvo. His lyrics are tons better than his fucking terrible poetry which adorns the side of a building in town. Personally I'd be fuckin embarrassed if it was me and would have vandalised it myself. The new Pulp LP was playing everywhere when I was in Sheff and I managed to snaffle a couple of special sheff-only limited editions. The Lp is called "More" after the old 1969 french film about pretentious junkies. I bet that took him fucking ages to think up. Good on him anyway. Another holiday snap! This time from Sheffield en route to the Waggon and Horses in picturesque Oxspring - built in 1772 and does amazing snap. Definitely worth a visit if you're anywhere close! The Penistone line opened in 1850 and runs from Sheff to Huddersfield and is notable for the idiosyncratic pronunciation of several of its stations. Penistone is pronounced "Penistone" in case you were wondering. #penistone

BIBLIOVERDOSE!!! August book haul so far!! Mostly from the wonderful Tadgh and Ralu at Fully Booked on High Street, Thornbury - the more you spend the more you save! Complete flmography of Brigitte Bardot films so I can work through them plus a fascinating overview of unjustly neglected Irish Cinema - a lovely illustrated 1959 guide to Paris strip clubs (with useful info about the New Eve as featured in Robbe-Grillet's Trans-Europ Express!) - a bio of the mighty Marcus Garvey (belated Happy Birthday!) which came with an unmutilated vintage East Texas State Uni Library punchcard c. 1972 - a Roy Armes tome I don't already have (he's my fave UK film writer along with Michael Channan) - two Joan Aiken books - she's difficult to find in Australia which is a shame - Ive wanted to read The Wolves of Willoughby Chase for years! It's an alternative history where King James triumphed and built the Channel Tunnel in the 1600s. Plus The Afterimage Reader from Mark Webber (yeah THAT Mark Webber!)'s Visible Press from World Food Books in the Nicholas Building which cost more than all the others put together but was still totally worth it. Afterimage was a UK experimental film journal issued sporadically from 1972-1989 (or thereabouts) - essential reading if you like fucked up and bizarre avant-garde films. NOW FOR A FEAST!!
