Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought Id be doing a massive fucken backpiece, and from Raoul fucken Goetze.
I few years before I met Raoul through a running coach I just moved to CPT and knew fuckall. I was sitting at a table in power and the glory and the slick Raoul rolled in . The table of people I was sitting with at the time told me that this guy is THE BEST tattoo artist in Cape Town. (Along with all the girls at the table drooling over him). I few years went by and I finally met him at a festival called Endless Daze. He invited me on a run the Saturday morning at the festival on the beach.
Being ridiculously hungover I knew that I couldn’t miss this opportunity to finally meet the man.
Im sure if you have met Raoul you can testify to the following. The first greeting was a combination of kindness and care.
Fast forward a few months I was in his tattoo parlour getting my first piece from him. (2021)
Its been sternum butterfllies, aggressive mandrills and multiple other pieces with other talented artists at his studio.
BUT the backpiece has alwas been in the back of my mind but never thought id pull through. Seeing that Im a massive pussy when it comes to tattoos.
Recently I sat down with Raoul and the piece was started.
The time you spend with your tattoo artist during a big piece like this is pretty special , make sure you pick him/her wisely.
Note to anyone wanting a tattoo. @palmblacktattoo is your place to go. I can’t recommend it enough. From Table Mountain outline tattoos to full fucken throttle backpieces. They got you covered. A welcoming space, good people, overflowing with talent and a vibe like no other.

I’ve been dreaming of a day like this for a while now. No wind, smooth roads, chilly but sunny and good company. The recipe for a quality ride sounds basic but its very very scarce. When those days come across your path be sure to make the best of it.
