This weekend marks the 251st anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. Lemuel Haynes, a soldier in the Revolutionary War as well as the first Black ordained minister in the United States, firmly believed in the ideals of the Revolution. He wrote this patriotic poem shortly after the Battle of Lexington and circulated it as a manuscript. It remained unpublished until 1985, when the original manuscript was rediscovered.

Art is powerful. Grateful to be on stage 8 shows a week.
Itās important to me to stay inspired; Iām a huge fan of Octavia E. Butler. The worlds she creates are imaginative & deeply grounded in the labyrinth that is the human experienceš
āChaos
Is Godās most dangerous faceā
Amorphous, roiling, hungry.
Shape Chaosā
Shape God.
Act.
Alter the speed
Or the direction of Change.
Vary the scope of Change.
Recombine the seeds of Change.
Transmute the impact of Change.
Seize Change.
Use it.
Adapt and grow.ā
~ Octavia E. Butlerās ( Parable of the Talents )
How the f$@& do we ātransmuteā and āseizeā the impacts of chaos? Iām not sure ā but asking the question is the first step toward a new understanding.
@gilderlehrman thank you for the book.
