Euripides’ ancient tragedy ‘Iphigenia in Aulis’ is reimagined at London’s @arcolatheatre , where director Serdar Bilis (@serdarbilis ) brings Greek myth into the present. The story of Greek commander Agamemnon’s (played by @simonkunz1 ) agonising decision to sacrifice his firstborn daughter, Iphigenia (played by @mithra.malek ), to appease goddess Artemis and be granted the wind his army needs to set sail for Troy and save Greece, is set against a modern backdrop of power, conflict, and moral collapse, questioning whether such choices are ever truly inevitable. This adaptation blends classical theatre with contemporary voices, replacing the traditional Greek chorus with video testimonies from women across the world, including Ukraine, Lebanon, Turkey, and the UK. Their reflections on war, motherhood, loss, and sacrifice challenge Agamemnon’s sense of duty and expose the human cost behind political decisions. Alongside these testimonies, the actors share personal stories on stage, blurring the line between myth and reality. The result is a powerful reflection on war, truth, and storytelling itself — asking how far humanity has really come since ancient times, and whether we can trust the narratives we’re told today. 🔗 Click the link in the bio to read @shahlatan ’s full review 🎭’Iphigenia’ runs at @arcolatheatre until 2 May 📷 by @ikinyum
