Opening May 12 in New York | Proximity & Interaction as a Spatial Practice brings together a series of works arranged as a spatial composition, where sound, movement, and material presence shape a shared experience. Centered on a musical console, the exhibition explores how objects are perceived and understood through use, proximity, and time.

Proximity & Interaction | NYC
Simon Hamui Studio presents a selection of works from its collection at @kabjuun New York. The exhibition is organized around the reintroduction of listening as a shared ritual. At its center is a newly introduced music console — ALMA — from which sound is projected both forward and backward, extending into the surrounding space. The piece recalls a condition in which music structures domestic environments, organizing attention and establishing a common point of focus.
Also included are works developed in collaboration with artist @edgarorlaineta as part of Variations on Non-Euclidean, referencing the work of Isamu Noguchi and Ruth Page’s avant-garde dance practice. These works extend the exhibition’s central premise beyond sound, introducing movement as a structuring element within space. If the console organizes the act of listening, the pieces introduce choreography as a parallel structure, linking sound, movement, and form within a unified composition.
Featuring collaborations with Edgar Orlaineta, René Bouchara, César Núñez, and Emmanuel Picault.
On view through June 10.

Spa at P14 — The women’s area includes a beauty salon, where wood paneling, stone surfaces, and upholstered elements define the space. Mirrors, storage, and work surfaces are integrated directly into the millwork, organizing each station through fixed positions and built-in elements.
Lighting combines concealed sources with direct task illumination, providing even, functional light across the room. The space is resolved through its layout, materials, and lighting working together.

Art: Developed by SH studio artists
Inside SH Space, the studio’s work is presented alongside a selection of objects, furniture, and references that reflect Simon Hamui’s personal perspective as a designer, a sensibility that has been absorbed and developed into the shared language of the studio. The space brings together pieces from the SH Collection, custom elements, collaborations, and collected works, including chairs, artworks, and images that inform this evolving vocabulary. It reflects a way of working shaped over time, where materials such as stone, metal, glass, and wood are explored with depth to create a meaningful visual and tactile experience.

Terra begins with weight. Beyond being a constraint, it is a point of departure. Its structure is defined early, then refined through its materiality.
Each element is reduced to what is necessary, allowing proportion and balance to guide the piece.
This is part of an ongoing body of work exploring mass, tension, and surface.
A process of grounding form before revealing it.

Dosel | 2025 — As intimate as it is fluid, as open as it is divisible.
Dosel is a residential project in Polanco, Mexico. Layered textures across walls and millwork, acoustic treatments, and soft indirect lighting define an interior that flows, supporting moments of connection as well as retreat.

Em | Console | 2026 SH Collection
Defined by the layered interplay between structure and volume, the Em console centers its expression on detail. Suede-lined drawers and leather-wrapped metal pulls create a material dialogue that elevates everyday use through its tactility.
The console is ultimately a composition of proportion, assembly and layered palpability.

Detailed views from P14, Mexico City. These close-ups focus on the way the project is built through material decisions, joinery, and proportion. Wood grains, surface textures, and thoughtfully resolved geometries reveal how each element is considered as part of a larger system.
